Digital Switchover

It's Not a Digital Switchover yet, but . . .

During the preparations for the digital TV switchover which is due in the Meridian TV region in 2012, the three commercial, digital terrestrial television (DTT) multiplexes at the Dover transmitter (serving south and east Kent) were moved to new frequency channels Wednesday 26th January 2011. This has been necessary to protect the digital TV reception to properties served by the Dover transmitter, from interference when switchover happens in neighbouring areas of France and the UK.

For hoteliers, guest house proprietors and anyone involved in the leisure or holiday business that have properties receiving digital TV services from the Dover transmitter you need to re-tune all the TV sets or equipment recieving digital terrestrial television through Freeview, Top-Up TV or BT Vision equipment, for your guests to continue watching TV. The new frequencies are being used until the Dover transmitter switchover in 2012 when Freeview coverage will be significantly boosted and all the multiplexes will move to their final, post-switchover frequencies. Viewers who are still watching analogue services, or receive digital TV from a satellite or a cable provider, will not be affected. If you need more information about re-tuning, visit digitaluk.co.uk/retuning.

Digital UK has announced the final switchover dates for homes in the Meridian TV region. Viewers in Kent and East Sussex will switch to digital-only TV in May and June next year, making Freeview available to hundreds of thousands of homes for the first time. A full list of dates for the region can be found on their website digitaluk.co.uk or call 08456 50 50 50.
