Your organisations purpose:

Sustainable wine production and sustainable tourism

What is your impact initiative?

Sustainable farming & sustainable tourism

The impact your initiative has had:

We are a small family run vineyard based in Hawkinge, Kent. We have been farming using natural farming practices for the last 8 years, and are now in organic conversion with the soil association. We are certified by Sustainable Wines of Great Britain for our farming and wine production practices. The impact of our approach to farming and wine making has been:

1) Our 2022 carbon footprint was audited as part of the SWGB certification process, and it was confirmed as negative 11.9 tonnes (so we are a significant carbon sink for the area)

2) We actively promote biodiversity of plant and animal life on and around the vineyard - we follow no-plough farming practices and don't use any artificial chemical fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides etc.

3) We will be planting wildflowers and clover in the vineyard this year to further increase the biodiversity of the landscape.

4) We use fully biodigradable/recyclable packaging on wine deliveries.

Have you observed any direct benefits to your business or organisation as a result of the initiative?

Our eco-friendly approach is a key part of our USP to our customers and one of the primary reasons they choose us as a tourist destination and why they buy our wines and gin. They have told us repeatedly that this element is very important to them and a driver for the amazing loyalty we have in our customer base.

Have you observed any benefits to your visitors as a result of the initiative?

As above, our eco-friendly approach is one of the primary reasons why our customers choose to visit us for wine tastings.

What category/categories does your initiative fall under?
